Gelamà is one of the oldest wine cellars in Alt Empordà, Costa Brava. In 2007, following 75 years of inactivity, the original family’s descendants reclaimed their heritage and embarked on making new wines, going on to become one of the first wine cellars producing monovarietal wines in Empordà. Without losing the old character, the cellar is focused on products that mark the difference.
Today, Cellar Gelama is producing organic wine fermented in amphora’s with grape varieties grown in unique climate of Empordà.
Just like their ancestors in the 1920s, Gelamà reinvented itself and started to produce sparkling wine (cava), becoming the only cava maker in DO Empordà to produce cava from its own vineyards.
Gelamà vineyards extend to 12 hectares which produce homegrown, native varieties of Macabeo, Garnatxa and Samsó that are solely cultivated organically. The wines are fermented in amphorae, continually creating both unique tastes and products including Ancestral sparkling wine, Grenache blanc de noir amongst others. When you are drinking Gelamà, you are drinking a part of L’Empordà.
